Festival of Lights Zagreb — “Journey Through Dreams” | 3D Projection Mapping Show

Magic Innovations created “Journey Through Dreams” — a fully original 3D projection mapping show for the Festival of Lights Zagreb, commissioned by Festival of Lights International and presented at the iconic Zrinjevac park in the heart of Zagreb.

The show was designed to captivate a wide, international public audience across multiple festival nights — delivering a magical, emotionally resonant experience as part of one of Europe’s most celebrated light art festivals.

The Concept

“Journey Through Dreams” invites audiences into a surreal universe where reality dissolves into fantasy. Inspired by dream logic and abstract visual storytelling, the narrative follows a symbolic guide — the White Rabbit — leading viewers through a sequence of unexpected worlds.

From the depths of an underwater fantasy realm, through chaotic and playful dimensions of pure imagination, each scene deliberately blurs the boundary between fear and wonder, absurdity and beauty. The journey concludes in a minimalistic, meditative finale — where the entire visual universe collapses into a single point of light, leaving the audience in a moment of calm reflection.

Rather than conventional linear storytelling, Magic Innovations designed the show around abstract, emotional narrative — universally understood across language and culture, and equally powerful for a child seeing their first projection show and a design professional watching their hundredth.

Creative & Technical Execution

Art-Driven Narrative Approach The show was conceived as a work of public digital art rather than a technical demonstration. Every scene was built around emotional impact — with visual complexity and pacing calibrated to maintain engagement across diverse audience segments simultaneously.

High-Frequency Public Programming “Journey Through Dreams” was designed to run every 10 minutes throughout the festival — requiring perfect looping structure, consistent rhythm, and maintained emotional impact for each successive audience group. This technical and creative constraint shaped every production decision.

Architectural Integration Every visual scene was precisely adapted to the building’s geometry, creating seamless illusions of depth, transformation, and movement that used the architecture as an active creative element rather than a passive surface.

Visual Diversity and Pacing From richly detailed underwater environments to fast-moving surreal sequences, the content balanced spectacular visual density with moments of artistic restraint — ensuring sustained engagement rather than sensory fatigue.

Emotional Finale A contrasting ending reduced all visual complexity to a single calming light point — creating a memorable, universal emotional resolution that audiences carried away from the experience.

Impact

“Journey Through Dreams” became one of the defining highlights of the festival programme, consistently attracting large crowds and generating strong social media documentation across its run. The project demonstrated how 3D projection mapping can transcend spectacle — becoming a form of public digital art that transforms urban space into a shared imaginative experience.
